About the Conference

The UKIEG Annual Conference & AGM 2025 explores The Impact of Net Zero on Health and the Environment. Join academics, industry experts, and policymakers to discuss Indoor Environmental Quality, sustainable design, advanced monitoring, and their connections with health outcomes.

Abstract submissions close on 14 April 2025, with notifications by the beginning of May 2025. Whilst the theme this year is around net-zero, health and IEQ please consider submission abstracts around other related topics.

Healthy Buildings Network

The Healthy Buildings Networkbrings together researchers, industry professionals, and policymakers to advance knowledge and practice in creating healthier indoor environments. Based at the University of Leeds, our network focuses on the intersection of building design, indoor environmental quality, and human health.

Interdisciplinary Research

We bring together experts from engineering, architecture, public health, and social sciences to tackle complex challenges in creating healthy buildings.

Knowledge Exchange

Our network facilitates knowledge sharing between academia and industry through events, workshops, and collaborative projects.

Policy Impact

We work to inform and influence policy developments that promote healthier indoor environments and sustainable building practices.

About Catherine

Catherine Noakes is renowned internationally for her pioneering research on airborne disease transmission, ventilation, and indoor air quality. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she advised the UK Government's Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE).

Catherine's multidisciplinary approach has significantly advanced understanding of infection risk in indoor environments, influencing both public health policy and building design globally.

Jon Bootland

Chief Executive, Passivhaus Trust

Jon Bootland is Chief Executive of the Passivhaus Trust, the UK's official advocate for Passivhaus standards, and Director of the Sustainable Development Foundation. With over 20 years' experience championing sustainability in the built environment, Jon has established and supported numerous influential networks.

Julie Godefroy

Julie Godefroy

Head of Sustainability, CIBSE

Julie Godefroy is a Chartered Engineer and the Head of Sustainability at CIBSE, leading key initiatives including the Net Zero Carbon Building Standard. Julie also works independently as a sustainability consultant specializing in building performance evaluation, climate resilience, and retrofit strategies.

The afternoon debate will explore critical gaps in current net-zero standards, particularly the underrepresentation of health and wellbeing considerations. Our panelists will discuss how we can better integrate human health outcomes into sustainable building practices and policies.

Abstract Submission

Submit your abstracts for oral presentations or posters by 14 April 2025. Authors will be notified of acceptance by the beginning of May 2025.

Submission Guidelines
  • Abstracts should be 300 words
  • Topics could relate to the conference theme: "The Impact of Net Zero on Health and the Environment", but others are also welcome
  • Please indicate your preference for oral or poster presentation
  • Selected abstracts will be invited for publication in a special issue
  • A few registration waivers are available to PhD students who can demonstrate how the conference would be beneficial to their career with a focus on equality, diversity and inclusivity
