The Healthy Buildings Networkbrings together researchers, industry professionals, and policymakers to advance knowledge and practice in creating healthier indoor environments. Based at the University of Leeds, our network focuses on the intersection of building design, indoor environmental quality, and human health.
We bring together experts from engineering, architecture, public health, and social sciences to tackle complex challenges in creating healthy buildings.
Our network facilitates knowledge sharing between academia and industry through events, workshops, and collaborative projects.
We work to inform and influence policy developments that promote healthier indoor environments and sustainable building practices.

Morning Keynote Address
Catherine Noakes is renowned internationally for her pioneering research on airborne disease transmission, ventilation, and indoor air quality. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she advised the UK Government's Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE).
Catherine's multidisciplinary approach has significantly advanced understanding of infection risk in indoor environments, influencing both public health policy and building design globally.
Journalist and Researcher
Kate de Selincourt is a journalist and researcher with a focus on the intersection of health, environment, and policy. She has written extensively on the implications of building standards for public health and wellbeing, advocating for a more integrated approach to indoor environmental quality in the context of net-zero transitions.
Head of Sustainability, CIBSE
Julie Godefroy is a Chartered Engineer and the Head of Sustainability at CIBSE, leading key initiatives including the Net Zero Carbon Building Standard. Julie also works independently as a sustainability consultant specializing in building performance evaluation, climate resilience, and retrofit strategies.
The afternoon debate will explore critical gaps in current net-zero standards, particularly the underrepresentation of health and wellbeing considerations. Our panelists will discuss how we can better integrate human health outcomes into sustainable building practices and policies.
Please note that this is a draft program subject to minor changes. Final details will be confirmed closer to the event date.
